In response to this year’s Earth Hour, FPT Software decided to turn off all non-essential lights in its campuses across Vietnam from 11:30 to 13:00 on Friday, 18th March to raise the awareness of all employees on energy savings.
Together with energy saving effort, the company also held a competition on the same day in response to the world’s event. The “staircase challenge” contest attracted the participation of nearly 100 employees at FPT headquarter in Hanoi. Participants were challenged to climb 15 floors of the building in shortest time possible, with the winner reaching the final floor in 1 minutes 35s. A special case joining the competition was an employee born with congenital disease on his legs. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang, born with an extraordinary will, finished the contest in 12 minutes. “In an circumstances, if you believe and have passion, you will gain the strength to overcome such obstacles,” he shared.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet, organized by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, which encourages households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. (local time) on the last Saturday in March every year. The purpose of this movement, besides getting people’s attention to protecting environment, is to highlight the need to save electricity which subsequently reduces the emission of carbon dioxide to the environment, one of the factors causing greenhouse effects.
