Global IT firm FPT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Australia’s La Trobe University to launch a strategic collaboration focused on accelerating applied research with real-world impact.
The partnership brings together La Trobe’s academic excellence and research capabilities with FPT’s industry expertise in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and enterprise solutions. Both sides aim to address critical skills gaps and co-develop innovative technologies that benefit both Australian and Vietnamese markets. This initiative supports La Trobe’s mission to translate research into meaningful outcomes, while reinforcing FPT’s commitment to global innovation investment. The MoU provides a flexible framework for joint research funding and potential co-commercialisation of healthcare solutions based on La Trobe’s research.
As part of the collaboration, La Trobe University will work with FPT experts in Vietnam and Australia to jointly research and apply advanced technologies, including digital twins, extended reality, and generative AI. The partnership also strongly emphasises healthcare innovation, with a shared focus on exploring research opportunities and advancing digital health solutions, particularly in chronic disease and aged care. The MoU marks a significant step forward in strengthening education–industry linkages and enhancing Australia–Vietnam cooperation toward a more connected, sustainable digital future.
"Today, more than ever, AI and machine learning play a pivotal role in enabling precise and personalised care. The opportunity to collaborate with FPT through this MoU with La Trobe is exciting—it opens the door for us to turn ideas into reality and advance digital health solutions that can enhance healthcare delivery for Australians." said Professor Nilmini Wickramasinghe, PhD, MBA, Optus Chair of Digital Health at La Trobe University.
“FPT has long been a trusted technology partner to Australian organisations, driving digital transformation across diverse sectors. Our collaboration with La Trobe University marks a strategic step toward bridging advanced research and practical digital health applications. This partnership leverages FPT’s strengths in technology and service excellence, reinforces our commitment to healthcare innovation, and deepens Australia-Vietnam cooperation in this vital field,” said Minh Tran, FPT Software Australasia Managing Director, FPT Corporation.
